Digital Literacy is more than just being able to read and write. It is a combination of skills that are needed to function effectively in a work or educational environment. These skills include:

In ABE, digital literacy initiatives enable adult learners to succeed in a range of academic activities, including STEM and college and career readiness. These initiatives enhance the integration of technology into instruction, increase student access to technology and leverage learning outside the classroom.

Digital literacy skills are the skills that allow individuals to access, navigate, organize and utilize information from digital or technology resources. Digital literacy skills are defined in Minnesota by the NorthStar Digital Literacy Standards, which address ten different areas:
